Free download: How to compile an ideas backlog - with template

Are all the ideas across the organisation captured consistently and placed into an ideas backlog?

The best innovation teams store those fully formed ideas in a central repository – let’s call it an ideas bank – ready and waiting to be picked up when the time is right. The trends we discussed in Focus continue to change, and it’s likely that people will change too, so ideas need to be well documented enough to be instantly understandable and actionable if/when the time comes.

A well-defined idea is likely to include the following:

  • Idea headline

  • Proposed solution to the problem

  • Top features of the idea

  • Key benefits explained

  • The experience the idea offers

  • The value (including price)

  • Potential partnerships

  • A visualisation or even prototype

  • A clear idea of the customer
